  • Transmission / Overdrive: OD cable

    Hi again,

when I pull the handle from under the dash, it pull nicely, but its pulling the cable housing only, not the cable... if that makes sense.. am I missing some kind of clamp that bolts to the tranny or somewhere else to keep the cable housing tight, so the cable line moves back and forth instead of the whole thing? This is my first Studebaker, I am not sure how it went together in the beginning so i have no reference point.

    Thanks

the cable conduit (wound casing) should be pressed/crimped onto the ferrule to prevent it's moving. You can sometimes crimp it yourself with success....The actual pressure to move the OD operating lever is very little...so its most likely your cable needs lubing......

Which end of the housing is moving? If it is the end near the handle you need to lube the cable good and then clamp the end of the handle bracket assembly to the housing. If the end by the transmission is moving you are indeed missing the clamp on the transmission end.
