  • Head bolts on flat head

Is it ok to remove head bolts when, say installing a oil filter? One thing I notice is that Studebaker used the head bolts to mount alot of Its accessories. I had to remove a head bolt to install a new oil line. Doesn't that weaken the seal on the head gasket?

I think it's ok to remove but I would drain the radiator first so that coolant doesnt pass thru the bolt holes that are drilled thru the coolant chamber into the crankcase area.

Be sure to clean the threads and use a good thread sealer when re-installing

      kemprop,

Thanks for the heads up on the radiator drain. I was going to ask sbj's exact question. There are some changes I wish to make on my 57 Champion flathead.
