  • Transmission / Overdrive: Will the available TH350/400+ adaptor plates work with BOP models with another adaptor?

With numerous threads on using GM turbo 350s, TH 400s and newer model transmissions with our Studebaker V8 engines I do wonder if a Buick, Olds, Pontiac (BOP) model transmission can be used with any of these transmission adaptors alone or can be used with a BOP adaptor that vendors like Speedway sells

I have a BOP TH350 in a 1980 Buick that is taking up space and a 259 in my garage that I hope to go through this winter, I also have a friend that is into Olds 442s and numerous TH transmission cores.

Jeff, nothing that Speedway has in the way of adapters will work as an automatic transmission adapter behind a Stude V-8. I personally use a BOP transmission behind the adapter we sell on my 289 Stude, which also works on the GM 350 and 400 turbo transmissions. Only problem I had was I had to cut off some of the unused mounting ears on the bellhousing part of the BOP transmission so it would clear my firewall. The BOP transmission I use incorporates the Chevy bolt pattern as well.

      Yep...what Frank said.
You can actually/should....drill and tap the two mid-upper holes into the adapter. Not the two in the top ears, but the two below them. They are not Chevy locations, therefore there won't be holes in the adapter plate. A drill, drill motor, tap and some ol elbow grease...should fix that.
