  • Shocks: Advice needed

Can someone here tell me the total weight and possibly the rear weight of my car ? It's a 52 2 door hard top commander I need this to help in chooosing rear shocks.
Mine is modified with a narrowed ford 9" I'm considering coil overs or possibly airbag shocks.
Any (positive) advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dean.

The factory weight of a 1952 model 3HK2 Commander hardtop is listed as 3220 lbs. Add for:
    OD trans: 40
    Automatic: 80
    Heater: 35
    Radio: 20
    Fluids: 161

Please remember that coil over (override) shocks and air shocks are very hard on the shock mounts,
which were not designed to support added vehicle weight.
You are better off to have your springs rebuilt, or replaced, and then put good regular shocks on it.

Thanks for the info Skip and advise Jeff. The mounts will be custom made by me and like everything else slight overkill. Maybe you could post a pick of what you have on the bad a## black car? I'm sure ot is above and beyond what I will need but still I would be interested to see what you have.
