  • Interior: Trunk Springs

In 2006 a friend of mine in Mexicali Mexico passed away (only 42) and his mother gave me his 1956 Powerhawk which had been sitting at that time for 25 years ...outside in the desert heat! The car needed EVERYTHING!! but in memory of my friend I was determined to restore it. I brought to the car in a neighboring village in Mexico and the shop soon parted my money from my wallet did nothing (other than lose parts) and then when our of business!! Fast forward five years and in two months another shop down there made a lot of progress turning my junker into something that looks like a car.(attached pic)
It still needs a lot of parts and work but I now have the motivation to get it completed.
    QUESTIONS
    1) I bought four new trunk springs....Is there an easy way to get them in place??
    2) The steering wheel nearly rests on the front seat....how much space should be between the indentation (upside down "U" shaped opening) in the dash and the steering column?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

      For the springs....
Get yourself some nickels...and a pair of pliers.
Bend the spring and stick a nickel in each gap.
When you relax and let the spring straighten out, the spring will be extended enough to get it on the hinge spring pins.
Then...take your pliers and pull out the nickels one by one.
      Easy as pie!
