  • Paint: Bordeaux red

Does any one have a updated paint code to match Bordeaux red on the 64's? It doesn't matter whose brand I can always do a cross reference.

I believe Your asking for info on 'new tech' paint (such as a urethane) for You '64, as the various paint codes themselves never change....'64 Bordeaux Red, Stude # P-6418.

What I'am looking for is someone that has matched the 64 paint to a newer baseclear color or a newer single stage. Most of the old codes no longer work with the lead free paints.

I just finsihed my '64 Daytona in this color; I went to my jobber, who sells Sherwin Williams, and they found it under "4th dimension" brand B/C, and they had it listed P-6418 as SN-60 said. The brand is a cheaper brand, but it looks great!

I have painted and repainted part of my '64 Cruiser in DuPont Centari.
The Centari code was 97095A H both times. In 1991 their books showed it to be a commercial color for England Trucking (remember their deep red tractors?). In 2005 it's application was listed as a "Ford USA".

I have just done this engine bay in Bordeax Red ona factory 64 GT, the car has original paint and the bay has never been painted. In preparing it I took off the battery decal on the L/H skirt which revealed a perfect colour match of the colour. The colour I used is a Renault colour which can you believe is called Bordeux, In 2 stage paint,
            PPG code LO11 it's a perfect match!

PackardHawk58 Thats what I will be doing this winter is a 64 hawk that I'am getting for myself as a driver and to advertise my restoration shop. I know its Bordeaux red or was when new. Just want to get as much information as possible ahead of time and have everything ready for the frame off restoration I plan to do. Plan is to pick the car up fairly soon and drive it a little to see how bad it is then pull it a part this fall after it gets cold. The color code you listed was just what I was looking for. I can cross that over into any paint line that I want.THANKS A LOT. Also the centari code skyway listed will be a great backup. Thanks

Steve, here are some more pics of the 64 since you have the same car, all options, powershift, P/S, power discs, except aircon, just rebuilt the original engine with R3 valves, double valve springs, ported and matched heads, R2 cam and running an Edelbrock 500 carby, should go good in the midrange powerband.

Forgot to mention that Renault colour is a 1980-82 vintage, just in case you have trouble finding it.

Steve might be referring to this car. The Bordeaux red looked pretty good when repainted in 1978:

But the following 33 years took their toll:

Some barn red and a paint brush would do it wonders!

I gave all the number that you guy's listed to my paint jobber and he found the color formula for me. Said he can mix it in ppg omin line in both single stage and base clear with number mtk 2225 and he's still looking for a number for higher end ppg for me.

To: swvalcon,----Be aware...PPG 'OMNI' brand is an extremely 'thin' urethane paint. If You go with PPG, You may want to spend a few more bucks for 'CONCEPT'.

I know all about omni paint I use it a lot. Been doing this for over 40 years now. Their mtk single stage is thin and you have to be carefull or it will run right to the floor. I 've had good luck with their base coat and with a brand name of Wanda. I'm thinking mtk on all the underside of the car and under hood and door jams and base clear all the body panels. Time will tell what I do there. Just glad i can get the right color for the car. I really like the factory color. I cant stop looking at candbstudebaker's pictures of his hawk.

I told Brent I would tell his the back stroy the next time I see him on why I want a 64 hawk but I'll fill you guy's in now. I just retired about a year ago and now run a small restoration shop out of my home in Princeton MN. Brent aka Milaca has agreed to sell me his 64 hawk. When I was 16 or 17 I worked at a gas station in milaca mn. Well one night I didn't want to go to work so I called in and said my car wouldn't start. The station was owned by the local Ford dealer at the time. THe next night at work the boss comes up to me and says you need a second car so when yours wont start you can still make it to work. [he had my number] Anyway he says I just took in a studebaker and a 55 olds on trade on a new Mustang. I've got nothing in the olds so if you give me $35. for it to do the paper work you can have it. So I stoped on the way home to check it out. There it was parked right next to this white 64 hawk with a black half roof. Just fell in love with that car but knew there was no way My dad would sign a loan for me. So I got the beat up Olds. I loved the looks of gt hawks from that day on. Well is been over 45 years and it looks like I will finally be getting my 64 hawk I've always wanted.Thank again Brent I should see you in a couple of weeks. Steve
