  • Engine: Sea Foam

Has anyone here ever used the product "Sea Foam" in a flat head 6.....? My son used some in a old Indian Motorcycle and said it really works so I was wondering what your opinions are on this stuff.

I use it in any vehicle that will sit for a while to keep the fuel from going bad. Works in lawn mowers and such too. I have had several people tell me that it cleaned up the fuel system on so their engines ran better. If I had a Champion needing attention, I would use it.

I wouldnt be afraid to use Seafoam at all. I have never used Seafoam in a Stude engine but have used it before on other products and have never had an issue. Good Luck, Steve

Sea Foam is a good product. I used it to clean out the induction system of my daily driver. I unplugged the large vacuum hose from the brake booster and poured it through while the engine was running. After smoking up the neighborhood the spark plugs were changed. It's a great thing to do before a tune-up.

Simillar, I've used the Lucas, Fuel Injector Cleaner in my bikes and cars for many years with excelent results.

It's very easy to see how it's working in the bikes. Just remove the airbox (air cleaner for you car guys..!) and open the butterflys. The ports and valves are kept very, or like new clean, which translates to the chambers being kept clean also.

I keep it in our 63 Mini, the Royal Enfield, the 500 Honda, the 52 Ford truck that we currently own, and have used it in a LOT of small engines, our Avanti, and several other vehicles, Stude and other brands. It is a good product in my experience, especially for an engine that sets for a while, or needs a bit of whatever is in it that makes the corn gas we get these days seem to run better.

The fuel injectors on my 2000 Volvo with 200,000+ miles were getting plugged up, but I was going to dump the car soon and didn't want to spend the money to have them taken out and cleaned. I tried adding a can of seafoam to a fresh tank of gas and that cleared things up for about 500 miles. I kept adding a can everytime it started to run rough and idle poorly and ended up putting another 10,000 miles on the car before I traded it in. The stuff gets a thumbs up from me too.

I use it at least once a month in my daily driver 95 Dodge Dakota and have for the last 5 cars I have owned keeps the injectors clean and running great. Most of my cars have had at least 150k and up for the last few years and never had an issue with the gumming up of the fuel systems. And also I use it in the stude over winter to keep the gas fresh and clean out the first tank in the spring.

In my regular cars, we use it before an dafter the winter season. Using it in a v6 will work fine. The only issue it coudl cause is if the system is too dirty, it will break a lot of the gunk free... moving it down stream to cause some issues.

If you are using it for the first time and suspect your lines are pretty bad... flush them out afterward. The stuff really works well, but you cannot mistake that for what it might loosen up and send into your system if ti is really bad.

A buddy of mine who ran a parts store said the cab drivers swore by it and kept it flying off his shelf.
That was good enough for me and I've had good results with it, too.

Have heard good things re SeaFoam but never have used it. Have used TECHRON by Chevron (NOT the fuel system cleaner, but rather the actual "TECHRON". A Cadillac machanic gave me a bottle of official GM fuel cleaner - Under their lable wa Techron. Also, a Mazda mechanic swears by it.

STP now has a product they call 'Multipurpose Motor Treatment'. Seems to be aimed directly at the Sea Foam market.

I've never used Sea Foam in my Stude VI engine. I have used it in my Model A Ford engine after it sat over the Winter. When I started the car in the Spring, it ran poorly. A friend of mine suggested that I add SeaFoam to my gas tank. I couldn't believe the difference. I thought I'd have to rebuild the carburetor, but I didn't.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
