Another 6v to 12v conversion

    Please explain why the wires on the fuel and temp would not need to be reversed also.
    The fuel and temperature gauges are not polarity sensitive. They do however, need to be operated on 6v power so require a 12v to 6v voltage regulator. The Runtz devices mentioned will do that.

        We are putting in an 86 Chevy trans. we have to shorten the drive shaft about 2" to make it work.

              A good reason not to use dropping resistors unless you absolutely have to is the 6volt equipment draws twice as much current as a 12 volt unit does. Depending on which radio you have, the 54 radios draw between 7 and 10 amps. If converted to 12 volts, properly, they draw 4 to 5 amps. The extra current becomes heat and the 6 volt units still draw the same amount of current, harder on the battery.

                MPallock has completed the wiring modification to his car using the same system I described.
                He used a battery from Antiqueautobattery.com that does essentially the same thing as two 6 volt batteries in series.
