I haven't seen Bob's Indy car hauler but, the #37 was restored by my friend Stan Smith Jr and his dad, and debuted at the Atlantic Zone Meet in Boalsburg, PA in 1981.

Stan sold it to Bob. It paid for his daughter's college education.

A while back, Stan called me and said Bob was coming to town and they would be attacking some of the local mountain roads; Bob in the #37 and Stan in his Mercer Speedster. Would I be interested in running with them in the '33 Rockne?
I've ridden with Stan as navigator in a '14 LaFrance Chief's Speedster. The man is insane and I cherish the memory of that ground-hugging flight.
I declined the offer to fly the mountain; my memoir is devoid of that experience and the Rockne is still in one piece.

You wouldn't happen to have a photo of Bob's hauler would you?

I started by needing an overdrive for my 37. With some creative machining I adapted a t86 od to the 3 speed gear box. Next I adapted it to fit the M truck 3 speed, then the 38. The trans in Brads picture is for a M series truck, an easy bolt in conversion, that allows these vehicles to easily cruse at 60-65 mph. We also do DG and flighmatic automatics, along with standard t86 t96 andt95 trans. Note, we always looking for cores. Jerry Kurtz

That's good to know,Jerry.I went to one of the best transmission places in Maryland to get an estimate on mine, and before I could finish saying "Studebaker", the service writer blurted,"NO, no, no, we don't do those!"I took note of your name and number; you may be hearing from me soon. Also, thank you letting me sit in your Coca-Cola truck when you were in Martinsburg a few years ago.It was the highlight of my day!!
