  • Steering Gear

    Hello Everyone!

I just ordered the parts to hopefully fix my steering gear in my 57 Hawk. It has the champion 185 six cylinder with a Flightomatic and standard steering. The steering unit is leaking. The question is : Do I have to pull the whole unit out of the car to rebuild it or can it be done while it's still in the car? I don't exactly understand what the book says but I get the impression that I can do it in the car. Has anyone done one of these? Any words of wisdom?

    As always---Thanks---Dan

I posted this on the forum when I put a seal in my 52 Commander. I did it while the steering gear was in the car, but the fenders were off which made it easier.
