    It appears to be a 1950 or '51. Go over to Studebaker Truck Talk and ask there. Frank Drumheller has amassed a great collection of those 'unknown' numbers.

    Wouldn't work in this case Ron, it's a R5= R series Champion engined, 1/2 ton pickup and all '49-'53's look alike!
    I just found my serial # listing, and it does not go far enough back. It does say that 1952 R5's started at 78579, so we know what it is NOT-('52-'53)

    I don't know where to find (on the web) a list of the serial number ranges for each year, but I do know that this very website has a list of engine numbers by year. If your engine is original to the truck, you can use this page to find the year of your truck (even if it's not the original engine, you can look up your engine number anyway, to find out when it was made).
