Outside sunvisor

Did Studebaker in the fiftys use Fulton sunvisors or did they make there own? I've looking for a visor for my 1950 Champion, Is there anyone out there that may have one? If not would a Fulton model 800 fit?

I don't have a 1950 accessory catalog, but this is from the 1949 Studebaker Inside Facts book, Studebaker did offer sunvisors as an accessory.

My Champion has a Fulton visor on it, but I don't know if it came from Studebaker that way or not. Unfortunately I don't know much of the history of this car, but I like the way the visor looks on it.

Paul; your car has a beautifully shaped roofline and a very nice one piece "bent" windshield unique to Studebaker, why in the world would you want to totally hide all that beauty with a "tacked on" afterthought looking contraption like that? Yeah, I know it's your car and you are free to do what you want, but I just don't understand why. Get sunglasses don't make it look like an ad for J.C. Whitney hung-on junk accessories!

Just be aware that most of the Fulton's are designed to use a center bar divider clamp mount. If you have a one piece windshield glass, you need a different center roof support. This means a clamp plate that requires drilling holes into the roof. I have also seen several sun visors that have a center support bar that runs to the cowl to hold the middle of the visor.

Of interest is to be aware that these visors are loud, as far as wind noise goes. The Fultons are made of aluminum, so corrosion should be looked at closely if buying online. Also, look for a stoplight prism, so you won't hurt your neck trying to see the light turn green

Oh, and they won't keep the rain off the glass either[:0]

I was only interested if an original was available ( and if the car could have originally had one). I'm not into aftermarket add-ons, but since my "custom" is so stripped down (no hood ornament, no fender chrome, etc) I though it might dress it up. We'll see... I've got tons of required expenses prior to any cosmetic additions!

By the way, if anyone knows of the whereabouts of any body trim to "dress up" a Custom to a Regal/Deluxe, let me know. Thanks.

Vegas Paul, is the color of your car "Maui Blue"? The reason I ask is my '51 is that color and I'm trying to decide whether to go back to that same color or not. On my car, the faded exposed areas look more blue than do protected areas that are under trim. Those areas seem to have more of a gray tinge. If your car is Maui Blue, it looks more blue in the photo taken in the shade but being experienced in photography, that is what could be expected. Is the left photo more representative of the actual color? Thanks!

There's not a WHOLE lot of trim difference on the exterior that you can add. You've already got part of it with those chromed headlite bezels. On the other end (and I can't see it in these two shots) the Taillight bezels could be chromed and the tag lite body/handle would be the "steer horn" style instead of the "bullet" shape that your custom ought to have.
You COULD add (and it ought to be fairly easy to find) the stainless reveal moulding around the windshield and the stainless trim along the upper door glass opening (I may have these if your car doesn't have them - again, I can't discern from those photos). You could add the stainless (or rubber) gravel guards your car seems not to have - and a hood ornament. There WERE front fender spears (mount on top - just behind the HL bezel), gas door guard, BU lites and a few other trinkets, but these things were optional even on the high-trimmed cars. Earlier Biz Coupes (late 40s) had stainless reveal mouldings around the back glass on the high trim cars. IF you could find such, it would fit your '51. That would be a nice bit of highlite. I found a set years ago but it'll never leave my hands unless my 51 Biz coupe sells (which BTW, it's for sale if anyone wants a project. But I ain't "givin'" it away)
My dad had a '48 Chevy fastback in the early 50s. It had an external visor on it. We passed a semi (going in the opposite direction) one day and the visor flew off and landed in a corn field! Dad never put it back on.[B)]

OK, I'm convinced, the visor is a no-go. However, Mr. Biggs, if you have any of the windshield and door glass moulding/trim I would be interested. I also would like to have stainless gravel guards & a hood ornament. Any price/availability on these items? I do have the bullet trunk handle instead of the steer horn handle, but it seems ok for now.

HOWEVER, trim items are merely icing on the cake, since I have several ongoing mechanical items I'm working on. (Currently installing Turner disc brakes and will be switching to 12V for SWMBO's required stereo).

John - I don't know if this is Maui blue or Aero blue... I don't have any official paint samples. Tho photo on the left (with my dog driving) is closest to the real color.

I added AC-2198 to my '51 many years ago. It arrived in the Studebaker box. It is fiberglass. I do not know if it was manufactured by Studebaker or OEM supplier. I still have the installation instructions.

Big Jim's advertises a reproduction for the '47-'52 Studebakers.

I've had my Fulton up around a buck twenty and it doesn't move at all...
But... I built the stainless side mounts for it.

I found a stoplight prism on e-bay for 135.00.Is that a good deal or what. I'm going to fix my visor not to come off at speeds over 150.

I remember buying my dad one of those prisims for Father's Day. He'd given several subtle hints that he wanted one and Mom helped me get one at Western Auto.[^]
