  • I'll keep the A/C...........you keep the blower:-)

Ever get the feeling that you made the correct decision yrs before concerning a situation that was automotive related?

Well, 43 yrs ago I drove into the local Miami, Florida Studebaker repair facility (Trojan service center) which operated until 1978......anyway I bemoaned the fact that I was dieing a slow death driving my R2 in the heat of Miami........I was offered a simple salution.........i would give all the blower parts to the dealer and he would order me an A/C kit to fit the car.............an even swap.......labor included.

Boy did I make the correct decision.......yesterday it was in the mid 80's and the heat on the expressway was brutal.........no problem..........click on that R12 A/C and good to go!

Upon returning home I topped off the system with one can of R12......as she was not putting out what I felt she should.......30 yrs ago i purchased several cases of R12 @ 98 cents per can at the local AID Auto Store on Long Island!

    So yea, R2's are great..........but I'll take the A/C:-)

LOL.....LOL.........Why? Well Enrique (Henry) Hernandez upon coming to this country lived in Queens Village, NY and worked as a line mechanic for the now closed Village Chevrolet on Jamaica Avenue. At the time Henry had a beautiful 1957 Golden Hawk was married to a great woman named Norma and had two suns. Norma worked for the airlines and was forced to re-locate to Tulsa, Okla....so she and Henry packed up and off they went to the southwest.

Years later they moved again.......to the greater Miami, Florida area.

Henry never worked for Studebaker........but he did work on hundreds of Studes as they were his passion.

He was one of the first to join the then nacent Studebaker Drivers Club.......started by my friend now passed Harry Barnes.

So yes, I remember Enrique Henry Hernandez :-)

I thought you might. I knew he once was in Miami as well as New York, and that he's always had Studes. Today he and Norma live outside of Atlanta. I visited his house in March where he was working on a '64 Commander. He also has a pretty nice '56 Flight Hawk.

A nicer guy I've never met.

I agree that they are nice people. I knew Henry when he lived on LI and also in Florida. They used to come up to our Hudson Valley Chapter meets in their '57 GH. The last that I saw them, we met at some SDC meet between NY and FL. Henry had a pickup for sale that I was considering.
