  • Parts for the Tomato

I'm removing the disc brakes and installing drum brakes on the Tomato and doing away with the booster and need some parts. I have one vendor checking to see if he has them but in case he doesn't I would like to know if someone here might have them. (I need to get them fairly soon so I can get it together for the FAST race at Martin this month).

The parts are from any '61 through '64 Lark without split system or power brakes (late '61 with swinging pedal):

Rod from the brake pedal to the master cylinder: Part number 1553419, illustration number 1109-7

Bolt that attaches the rod to the brake pedal arm: Part number 1552280, illustration number 1109-16

Two plastic bushings, one on each side of the rod: Part number 1552040, illustration number 1109-18

If you should have them and will sell them, please let me know and if the vendor doesn't have them I'll get back with you, either way.

    Thanks,

    Ted

    Ted,

I'm sure I have all of that as it came off my car when I converted it to power brakes with Jim's disc kit. Let me go on a search this PM If I can locate it It's yours for the "team".

Great Dan! Thanks. Go ahead and send them. If you will, put a note in letting me know what I owe you including shipping and I'll send you a check.

In case the vendor comes up with them also, I go ahead and buy them for his trouble. I'm just happy to be able to get them right away.

        Address is:

        Thanks again.

Thanks again Dan. I sure didn't expect you to do that but it is really appreciated. Hope I can repay you sometime.

Obvious weight savings by removing the booster. Is the drum brake equipment lighter also?

I dunno if they're lighter or not, but you can adjust drum brakes to zero drag, which you can't do with discs...

There is a weight savings of about 10 pounds doing away with the booster. The drum brakes are slightly lighter but very little. I put on smooth drums and if I had used finned drums there probably wouldn't be much difference at all.
