Left hand lug nuts to fit Ford rims? Or another solution?

I want to get at least one of my 57 Stude sedans rolling on new 205/70 or 75/15 radials on my new Ford rims I purchased. As I understand, the Stude lug nuts aren't really safe to use on the Ford rims due to size, and Ford should be used. But, Ford didn't make left hand thread lug nuts, so I have to get the drivers side lugs replaced (10 lugs to start, and 10-20 later...) de-swaging and all, with right hand Studebaker lugs and use regular Ford lug nuts, right?

Then those new lugs have to be re-swaged to the drums?

Anything I've missed, or should do a bit differently based on BTDT?

I don't have a Dorman catalogue handy, but I wouldn't be surprised if Dorman or NAPA still carry the larger Ford-sized lug nuts in a left-hand thread. Then you can leave your lugs alone.

Any auto parts store should have, or can get, left hand lug nuts. Changing to right hand studs is not too hard if you're handy with tools, but just buying new lug nuts is easier.

I purchased some left hand thread chromed acorn-style lug nuts for just this reason... I think I got them off eBay or maybe from Summit or Jeg's as the local FLAPS didn't carry them. The chrome ones all have the larger hex size like the Ford nuts do.

Jim, Chrysler used LH threads in the 60's as I remember, they may be available too, although I can't remember if they were big-boy sized like the Fords, or the little things like GM. (this should start a ruckus, Ha!!!) John

Nate, thanks for the tip on the chrome acorn nuts--that's the sort of info I need. Mind you, they are going to be hidden by a nice set of AC2841 wheel discs, since I paid enough for those puppies, I want to use them. <G>

Since my IP address is in Canada, and I'm not all that familiar with US retailers, I've had a few problems. Tried before for something from Summit, and it was an exercise in futility--I couldn't do it even with trying to ship to my Maine drop-off address, they just didn't seem to want me as a customer :-( I'll try googling Jegs and also trying for some Canadian sources

Mind you, if someone 'knows' for sure of a site, I wouldn't mind getting a hint or a link :-))

I have a 1936 Ford PU it has l/h threads on one side same as the stude.I. dont really remember but I had a 1951 Merc [I] think it had l/h threads also.I was able to pick up l/h thread nuts at a local auto parts store.Also on line ford vendors carry them.

I bought some keystone rims for my 1951 Champion. They use the special lug nuts. I bought right hand studs for the 51 at Napa. I knocked the left hand ones out and welded the backs of the new ones in. It worked for me.
