  • Heat Riser Delete

This is my first post on the new forum, so I'm trying to get used to it!!

Is there anywhere that a heat riser delete can be purchased that will fit a 63 Studebaker V-8? I have an Edelbrock Carb with the electric choke, plus I live in Louisiana, so a heat riser valve is not really necessary. The old valve is cracked in half and not usable. Any ideas?

The easiest thing to do would be to pull the butterfly out of the old one, JB Weld it together, and bolt it back in! That said, you can probably simply remove it and bolt the headpipe flange back up to the manifold without any ill effects. When I bought Barney, he had no heat valve on him, and the pipe was bolted directly to the manifold with no ill effect.

The local exhaust shop eliminated my heat riser (even though it was functioning) and fastened the header pipe directly to the manifold on my '63 Hawk with dual exhaust.

Because of the crossover pipe from the left side, and the clamp affixed to the bell housing, I was unable to totally delete my heat riser. I fabricated a spacer out of 9/16 aluminum plate.

I purchased a spacer from Jon Myer.....and eliminated the heat riser.

Do not use JB Weld on the exhaust. It will not tolerate the heat. Go to your local muffler shop and show them what you need. They can use a couple of flanges together to make up the correct length. Easy fix.

This is why I love this forum!!!!!! I didn't think about using a couple of flanges from the muffler shop!! That would be a simple and quick fix! Sometimes you just need a little something to prod the old brain!

              Thanks
