  • Crankshaft thrust washer orientation

Hello everyone and long life to the new forum.

When I dismantled my OHV6, I've found the crankshaft thrust washer with the oil grooves towards the end play shims (rear). This looks quite illogical to me. As there is no precision in the shop manual, I prefer to ask you what should be the right position to be perfectly sure.

Thanks by advance and have a nice day.

Facing the main bearing flange, definitely. It needs that oil cushion to prevent wear on the flange, or edge, of the front main bearing. Since it is held tight by the pressed-on timing gear, there is no movement between the thrust washer and the gear. So it would serve no purpose facing the timing gear.

Thanks for your reply Dwain. You're damn right. By reputting all the parts together, I went to the same conclusion. My first thought was quite wrong. Nevertheless, on the chassis parts catalog, they show the grooves towards the front.
Kiss your dogs for me and have a nice week-end.
