  • '55 President 4-door rear vent window rubber

Anyone know a source for the REAR quarter windows rubber seals for the 4-door '55 President? Have checked SI, SASCO, Stephen Allen, Metro, Steel catalogs but apparently the rear quarters are not reprodcued? Pretty odd that all the rest of the windows and door rubber is readily available.

If anyone has repro'd it, Bill Fennessey is probably the guy, or can tell you where to get it.

Thanks Nate. He's 100 miles up the road. I'll give him a call. I see his advertisement now in the Turning Wheels.

Bummer! Talked with Bill today. The 4-door sedan rear 1/4 window rubber is not being reproduced. Guess I will have a breezy ride on sunny days only.

Well, your not alone. I too have a 55 Prez Sedan and would like the rubber for those windows...although not immediately, I'll need them at some point for the restoration. Put me down for a set when someone makes them. If anyone has any leads or produces them, please send me a message.

          Thanks

Well, "someone" must have restored a '55 4-door before and perhaps knows what could be substituted/modified. I find this most amazing when I look at various catalogs and see virtually every piece of rubber/weatherstrip available for a host of cars/years/windows/doors, et. al. but not the rear 1/4s.

You guys are making me nervous. I bought some NOS rear qtr rubbers from Bill Fennesse a few years ago for my '56 president classic. I sure hope I can find them when I need them now.....

Are you sure SASCO doesn't have them? I ran the numbers 308942 & 308943 on their website and they show them both availble at $29.70 each. These are for the style of rear vent window that swings open.
For the fixed rear vent window they show 298600 the right side as being availble at $21.60, the left 298601 is NLA.

If they are NLA, I have a used right rear vent window assembly for the style that swings open, which you can have for the cost of shipping. The vent rubber is okay (couple little nicks) and with a little armorall you could proabably make it more plyable.

OK, maybe so. Thanks! I did not have part numbers to search by. My '55 series chassis parts book does not contain those part #s (it skips from 308919 to 308952) or any glass/windows. I'll check with SASCO tomorrow because that is what I need, the rear vent window opens type. I'll repost after contacting SASCO.

Do you not have the Body Parts catalog to compliment your Chassis Parts catalog??? Having one without the other is like having only half the Rosetta Stone![V]

OK, a little confused now. After cleaning up, I found part #s on my rear 1/4 vent window rubber and they are the 289600 and 298601, but these vent windows on my car indeed do swing open. ???

Those probably are not the part numbers for the parts. What you found are numbers like the numbers on cast metal parts that look like part numbers, but are not the part numbers. Look the parts that you want up in the proper parts book and then order by that number.

OK, from SASCO the 308942 $ 308943 have the wider insert and will not fit into the reat vent windows that open out w/o some serious meticulous cutting/trimming of the rubber over the whole curved surface to narrow the insert by about half. I was able to order the right side piece (298600 like came off the car) and will be looking for the left side piece.
