Was the original factory carpet in Studebaker Avanti cars a loop pile or a cut pile carpet?

Opinions on which is more dense and more durable?

I see no one answered so I'll take a shot. The replacement stuff I have in the 64 is loop and I think that was original style also. My opinion is that loop is a little more durable and easier to clean.

I heard back from JDP and he said the exact same thing. Factory style carpet was a loop pile and that it should be less prone to matt down over time.

I've ordered a new carpet set from Historic Automotive (JDP) and chose to upgrade over the standard carpet set to what he calls an 80/20 blend carpet to get a little better quality carpet.

John, I acquired my carpets from JDP, and after he corrected a minor boo-boo with the right side console cover, every piece fitted like a glove. That was my 4th carpet installation in an Avanti and probably the easiest. I always follow the factory method of installation with #6 chrome screws and trim washers, where glue isn't called for.
