  • T86 cluster gear tooth count

Anybody know the tooth count on a T86 cluster gear?

I think it depends on the year, and application.

Thanks. Was there any difference between T86's used with 6 cylinder vs 8?

Probably, the T86 with a six was a taxi application.

I took the input shaft from a taxi six T86 I own and the input pinion of the taxi six application is smaller than the pinion on the standard V8 pinion I believe the ratios are different too.

Wish I could count the cluster gears but it is storage right now

The "T-86" in the 6 Cly. Taxi, was a T-90!

The T-90 was used with or without the H.D. 10 1/2" Clutch, with different input shafts.

The T86 generally wasn't used behind a six cylinder engine except for heavy duty applications (taxi), '65-'66 models, and some trucks.
In those applications they usually had a different main drive gear.
As far as the cluster gear, there were three different part numbers used over the years. The most common one is 1540389. My books show them all using the same number of gear teeth though.

Ooops[:0], guess I'll have to look at the taxi tranny I have stored in the basement but at first glance it is nearly identical to a 63 T86 and the 65 T86 I rebuilt.

I had better put on my glasses and check what number is actually on the cases, unless BW built T86s w/ T90 guts, lord know I have
