• back seat

My 53 Champion 2 dr ht does not have an armrest in the back seat. It is all one piece. It is Airway gray. Everything else matches with the production order. Would it be possible that it came this way, or did someone switch it out. I know that is was from the L.A. assembly line. And it was early 53. Getting ready to put the body back on the frame. Now I have to get the interior taken care of.
Thanks in advance, Judy[:I]

Anyone who's been involved with Studebakers for any length of time knows better than to say Studebaker never did that. Many exceptions to standard production were made. It would surprise me such an exception would not be noted on the production order but, I know better than to say...
How early is your production date? There were some LA/SB differences.

Pretty sure it did not come that way. How's the fit over the drive shaft tunnel ? (Might have a later Hawk seat)

The back seat seems to fit perfect. Doesn't look like it has had the separate seats with an armrest. But, I sure don't know.

May 26, 1953 would be very late in 1953 model production, not "early".

Your Starliner should have a rear armrest that opens from the back to the front.

Are you sure that you have a 2 dr ht (Starliner) and not a 2 dr sdn. (sedan)? What is the body tag information (on the engine side of the cowl) or the model information from the build sheet?

That is definitely a Starliner (hardtop). It is a 1953 Champion Regal Starliner.

What you state as a "6" at the beginning of the serial number is actually a "G".

Your car was assembled in Vernon/Los Angeles California about two thirds of the way through the 1953 model year production.

Thank you Gary - I uploaded some pictures from my iphone to photobucket.
