  • Rebuilding the T-98

Hi folks, Two questions, first Is there a "master" rebuild kit for the T-98 that would have all the normal rebuild items, brass, seals, etc...? I had a local trans expert verify the issues in the broken T-98 from the parts truck and He believes that we can build a good trans between it and the one in the truck. He suggested it have all new brass, bearings, bushings, seals etc.. and we do a complete overhaul. This seems reasonable for a 50 year old part from a junk truck. I will be trying to decipher exactly what parts and part numbers I need from the manuals on CD in the next few hours. So far I am ready to pull my hair out (which I cant stand to loose any faster) and I havent even found my trans on this infernal device. I will get through it, but if there is an easy way PLEASE tell me. Second question, He quoted $250 for labor and came highly reccomemended. Is this a reasonable rate for a competent technician? He is semi-retired and works from a very nice, well organized, well equiped and clean shop on his property. And how much can I expect to pay for the parts assuming all of the major parts are saved (we'll call that question 2A)? Thanks in advance, Steve

Since you seem to be in the L.A., Ventura area the best place is A&A Gear on 1402 E Washington Blvd. Los Angeles. 213-748-2194. Ask for George. If others chime in here and there is a Stude vendor that has the stuff and it isn't to high, go through there. In the L.A. area average is $50 an hour. I would say it is going to take more than 5 hrs. to rebuild it.

Thanks, Wrong side of the country. I am in South Carolina. I got numbers for everything I saw and knew I would want last night. Going back and let the trans guy check the CD and see if I missed anything today. Then starts the fun part of tracking down everything. Oh well. Its gotta happen. Thanks, Steve
