Hey! Does anyone have a clear picture of what they feel is the original installation point for the Parking Brake Warning light (1551996) on the GT Hawk dash, or an instruction sheet? Looks like Dave Mottle may only have an earlier sheet for another model. Thanks for any help! Dan

It is my understanding that all hand applied parking brake warning lights were UNDER dash mounted, near the handle as you see in the '53-'55 Accessories Guides.
The only "IN" dash mounted warning lights were '64-'66 Lark types.

Here is a picture of the light and bracket. The light is convex with a spring that seems to indicate it's mounted thru a hole drilled thru the face or underside of the dash, but trying to pinpoint where. There are two wires to connect: one probably a ground and one for power. Dan

I don't think so Paul, that clamp on style switch is for a Handle shaft, not the step-on type! The light is also a bit different, but I thought there should be a bracket to mount the light under dash, maybe not. So WHERE would you put the light? [:0]
Remember the '64-'66 switch was that cheap plastic plunger in a tin can that always falls apart?

Paul, here's a better picture of the switch to compare to your 64 pedal type switch. This switch has an angled arm that closes down on the switch plunger as you pull out the handle. Its all metal, made by the Jown W. Hobbs Corp. Is this what you have?
Anyway, any info to where the light was mounted? Thanks. Dan

I'm afraid I have never seen one on a Hawk. I have the type Rich mentioned earlier on my '53. I'll try to research it a bit. If an AC number can be found, the SDC template czar may have the template for where it should go in the dash.

The switch clamps around the parking brake assembly under the dash closer to the firewall, with the switch mechanism on top of the parking brake assembly. When the brake is released, the roll or stop pin that travels back and forth on top of the brake assembly is pushing the angled lever closed, which pushes the plunger in and keeps the switch off.(I incorrectly described the sequence above in reverse-sorry!)
When the brake lever is pulled out and applied. the roll pin slides out from under the lever, which releases the plunger and turns on the flashing red light.
I'm still trying to find out the correct location for mounting the light in a Hawk. Dan

I am pretty sure on the handful that the factory installed, they would have found a flat surface on the fiberglass, near the hand brake on the lower part of the dash, not on the Instrument cluster to mount that thing. [^]
It would be a neat thing to have, but just extremely rare on a Hawk, you'll be the ONLY one on your block to have one!
