  • 259 Piston Casting Number Question

    Can anybody tell what a 259 piston with casting number 535956 converts to as a part number?

    I know casting number 535957 = 1553159 (from an NOS piston in the box.)

    You could always borrow, rent or buy a 3 to 4 inch Micrometer and find out. [:0]

    Where'd you get a micrometer that spits out Stude part numbers?

      The 1553159 Piston is a .001 oversize Piston, and the only other Piston in the 1553 part # series 259 Piston, is the 1553160 .002 over.

      How that matches to casting numbers is hard to say without a rare NOS Set of original Studebaker Pistons of each type, IN THE PART NUMBERED BOX, OR PART NUMBER STAMPED.

      Update: Did I mention that there [u]ARE NO</u> "STD." size 259 or 289 Studebaker replacement Pistons?

      This IS a flat top Piston right?

        All right dam**t.. you made me go look... I have some "loose" pistons on my shelf. They are in original boxes

        1553159 = .001 oversize 259 piston, casting #535957. Measures 3.546"
        1539566 = .020 oversize 259 piston, casting #536240. Measures 3.565"

        1539051 = .030 oversize 289 Piston, Measures 3.575" casting #1539047.
        1539050 = .020 oversize. 289 piston, Measures 3.565" casting #1539047

        Note that the .030 and .020 289 pistons have the same casting number.

        So, I can't help to answer the question... 535956 might be a Standard 259 piston... only by measuring can you tell.

          Thanks to everyone who responded. The reason I asked the question is that a local club member is looking for one 259 0.030 oversize piston. I had several of those unidentified pistons and thought they might work.

          If anyone has one 1539567 piston they would like to sell let me know and I'll have this person contact you thanks.
