  • help pulling the axles out of a Dana 44

I would like to change the bearings and seals on my 1959 1/2 ton studebaker truck (rear axle). What type of axle puller does the best job?
    Thanks!

The Kid is referring to the hub puller. Once you have the hub loose, put it back together with the nut only on the end of the axle. Mount the wheel and jerk the whole thing toward you. It might a couple of tries, but you are pulling the bearing out of a snug slip fit hole that is/was packed with grease.

The concept is that you move the wheel/hub/drum assembly freely on the axle until it strikes the nut, acting like a slide hammer.

I use a length of chain behind the axle nut with a "yank bar" on the other end. Note the location of your family jewels in relation to the axle that will home in on them given the chance. ( I heard )

No issues with the chain mucking up the threads on the axle, John?
