  • 1982 Avanti Dark Blue interior touch up

    Gentlemen,

I wanted to pass along some interior touch up info to those of you that have the dark blue Avanti Interior.

Our 1982 Avanti has 31,000 miles on it and the interior is original and in very nice condition. It did however have some scratches and nicks on the plastic dash, upholstery and side panels.

We tried several sources to find a paint that would exactly match the interior color and finallly got a paint at Home Depot that is a dead perfect match.

The paint is Behr Premium Plus Satin Exterior enamel. The base is Deep Base # 9340. The mixing code is

    Clrnt OZ B(1) E(1) KX(0)
    Clrnt 384th B(130) E(217) KX(38)

When we painted the dash scratches with this paint it matched perfectly and the dash now looks show room new. We also used the paint to touch up some wear on the sewn edges of the seats and that also worked out really well. Be sure you get the satin sheen.

We were so happy with this I wanted to share it with you. It took a lot of tries to get this exact match.

I assume you used a small paint brush and carefully spread. Did you mask off anything in the dash/seats and how long did the paint fumes linger inside the car? My 78 Avanti II is factory White and could use a clean look ( its weathering at spots from use/ Hot Fla sun).

Will the seats crack this paint after heavy use ?

I used a very small fine point brush and we only touched up very small scratches, the dash looks almost new otherwise. There was no spraying so no need to mask off. The paint is a water based acrylic enamel and has no odor and is very durable. No paint was put on any seating surface only the edges of the seats. My seats are almost perfect with very little wear. With the touch ups the car interior looks almost showroom new.
