  • Stude Truck ID

This information was left off my message of yesterday:

    Nameplate data:
    Model: 3R-C2
    Cab No. 1283
    Trim No, T-6044
    Paint No. P-2641

    Is this a 1 1/2 Ton truck? 1 T? Something else?

As answered yesterday, a 3R-38 is a two-ton truck. C-2 means a standard cab. Deluxe cabs were available in some years, and were called C-4. Deluxe just meant two arm rests, two sun visors, and a few other easily-added trinkets. It meant different things in different years.

The cab number is just a sequential number indicating that it was the 1183rd cab built that year (numbers started at 101). It has little significance today, and was not related to the truck serial number. The trim number indicates the shade of brown or gray some of the interior items were painted. All 3R trucks were the same. The paint number indicates the combination of exterior colors the truck was painted, both the primary color and the off-white the grille and bumper(s) were painted.

      An aside:

Should some consideration be given to a "sticky" with photo's of serial plates, body tags, engine serial numbers and their respective locations? I know most have no problem explaining where to locate these items, and I have looked at various vendor pictures with LINES pointing to these locations, but nothing IN ONE PLACE, on the forum.

      Just a thought.

      I'll start........with this example.

Check some of those numbers again please. You might have to polish the body tag to make it more readable. The paint number might be 2541 (Cherokee Red).
The trim number refers to the beige or tan color of certain interior metal pieces and upholstery items. I'm not familiar with number 6044.
