  • Barrel Clips

Anyone happen to know the size barrel clips I could use to hold the chrome louvers on the fins of a Golden Hawk? Or what have others used. I have gotten 1/8 and found a smaller size. one to big one to small... The Auto parts store can order ones for me if I know the size. Or, what have others done to hold them on.
    Thanks

Worst case you could add some two sided tape used by body shops under the louvers. The stuff made by 3M that is grey in color seems to be the strongest holding tape. Available at most body shop jobbers.

Thanks, Ya I will have to do some sort of tape /glue as a last resort. just figured the right size clip would be known. need to know the size of the prongs. can make the hole bigger if needed.there isn't really much surface to stick tape to where it wouldn't show

On my Hawk, I ended up taping an acid brush to the end of a long wrench and dabbed RTV on the ends of the pins. 10 years later and they're still holding fast.

The new ones are not the same size as the old. 2 part epoxy is what david used on long old wooden skewers.

hmm, guess ill have to look into gluing them from the back like has been suggested. I had one that had an original clip on it (triangle shaped speednut) but ofcorse there is no way to use that kind without taking the fin off. I had one off and would not be wanting to fight with that finstrip again. I guess the fins must have been painted and assembled separately when on the assembly line.
            Thanks for the help!
Anne, I have watched your progress on your Golden Hawk looks beautiful, was sorry to see when it got hit. did you get it all fixed ?

Every time I've taken fins off a Stude, there was usually primer underneath. This would indicate the fins were painted ON the car.

thats what I figured they had to hold them on. Guess ill have to just keep trying differant sizes, Have gotten 2 differant ones so far that didnt fit. $5 a pop... no one seems to stock them anymore. so they have to be ordered.
