The wrong oil filter has been fitted to my President and I am trying to locate a correct one. The Book says it should be a FRAM but the part number that is given is 187850 which I think must be a Studebaker no. as I can't seem to mach these numbers up. The size is 110 w x 102 deep.Any suggestions as to where I can get one or is there a modern equivilent. Thanx

Way back then ALL oil filters were add-on bypass type oil filters, whether they were originally installed on the Studebaker assembly line, or at the dealer, or at a service shop.
Are you sure it is 'wrong'?
It could be a Fram, or a Hastings, or a Luber-finer.
All would be 'correct' if they are the proper unit for the application.
As far as the Stude part number goes... It would be for a 'vendor supplied' bypass filter, so a Fram brand filter could well be what Studebaker installed.

If there is a Fram Decal on the case, and it says F3 or F4, it takes a Fram C3 or C4 element.
Chances are, it is a F4 taking a C4 element if it is a President 8. The element measures 4 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/8 inches across. I have no idea how many English thingys that would be. [:0]
