  • Cost of The Hobby?

If your stude is for hobby purposes and not a daily driver, how much would you pour in each summer driving season?

For example, I just filled the Avanti with 20 gallons of Sunoco 110 leaded race gas.........total cost to fill $218.00. I am willing to spend this because the car is summer use only, and when I get half emply I re-fill with 93 no-lead.

Kinda of funny in a way. Down here in Houston the summer is the time when no one wants to drive. It is just to damm hot. I am a transplant from NE Ohio and I know the summer driving time is limited and $10.00 plus for a gallon can be acceptable. Anyhow my response is spend what you can afford and enjoy your car to the max.

I'm sure glad I have a "regular" 289 that uses unleaded 87! I don't think about the cost, but I put on about 1000 miles each summer.

Sunoco 110 0ctane race fuel runs $7.00 a gallon here. I only use it when racing, use 91 octane in my R-2 the rest of the time. Nothing higher octane in the way of pump gas available around here.

If you live near a small general aviation airport (the smaller the better) talk to the FBO (fixed based operator) about buying 100 octane LL
avgas. Runs about 4.20 a gallon where I live in SC, and the R-1 Avanti and R-2 GT love it. Plus it has a storage life of literally years.

Can't you just drive your Avanti out on the ramp at La Guardia or JFK and charm your way into getting some Avgas? Might get the club some nice national exposure!

But for those that live out in the sticks (like me) avgas is a nice alternative. Russ Farris
