  • quartz clock conversion

I am considering converting my electromagnet winding clock to a quartz operation. After clening the points and using trombone oiil for lubircant, I get the wind-up working for a while. However if I disconnect the battery, it doeenst readily re-start causing some aggravation.
Anyone have a recommendation on converting and if so, a vendor recommendation. What kind of costs should I expect to convert the clock?

Had a quartz installed at the Nationals at Indy back in 86 by a guy who called himself "Doc Clock". After having found a NOS clock at the swap. It worked very well and still does, but if left with battery connected it will pull battery down. There is a constant draw by this conversion. So there is a down side, resetting after dosconnecting battery so it doesn't run down or start it every 3or4 days to keep it up, or use a "tender". So pick your battle. The clock in my 66 Daytona loses 5 minutes every 24 hours and it's easier to reset than try to get to the advance on the back. I've brought several electro-mags back to life and it's fun to watch them work after many years. I even have 2 48-50 Hudson clocks working(6 volt).
    Hope this helps
