  • How to test a 3 wire wiper motor

Ok, I just installed the wires on a new wiper switch and ran a ground to the chassis and get a spark from the test leads when I hook the positive to the big white-black stripped wire that goes from the switch ACC pin to the wiper switch. No go when I turn the wiper knob. Do I need to run another ground to the wiper motor?
yellow, black and green wires. 12 volt wiper motor.
Oh, one more thing, it is a six volt switch, with 6 volt circuit breaker, I was told that would work ok with the 12 volt system. ???

    Update-
After posting this, I went and hooked up a test lead to one of the wiper motor gear housing screws and than hooked up the positive test lead to the ACC wire.
Wiper motor and switch work perfect!!
Hope this helps some one else.
But is does spawn another question, Why would it not work just hooking the negative test lead to a good ground? Isn't the motor grounded through the firewall mounting bolts?

hi k. my avanti [63] wiper motor is stuck. I removed the armature
& cleaned off the rust, put back in,still no work.It is getting
power,I would think because when I plug the connecters together
you hear click & the ampmeter needle drops full left.It will
do this every 5-6 seconds.Any ideas?

You have a short, maybe in the motor, that's causing the circuit breaker to kick in. When the breaker cools down it allows juice to flow again until it gets hot and clicks off. The reaction of the amp gage is the big draw that the short is causing.
