  • Champion dual exhaust mufflers?

Since I have not heard a dual exhaust champion run, I need some ideas on brand of mufflers to use on a 55 champion with 185 motor.

Good luck with that! Since you could count the Champions with dual exhaust on the fingers of one hand, or maybe a couple more! [:0]

Search the 'members' for Mimi. She's got a '50 Champion with duals on it.
I'm sure she'd be happy to share what was used on it.

I would like to see pictures of dual-exhaust Champion sixes, particularly from underneath.

I wonder if you could just use two sets of stock exhaust pipes, run right next to each other, with a single muffler from a European car with similar exhaust layout - that's how my old BMW 535i was done (and it had a heck of a sweet exhaust sound...) that way the only custom work would be the headpipes and whatever you needed to do around the muffler. for hangers you could just weld pieces of stainless rod to the pipes to hold them together.

Alternately, you could use the exhaust system from a '55 with dual exhaust V-8 and have custom headpipes fabbed... not sure how you'd handle the crossover to the driver's side.

I have dual Flowmasters (40 series) on my Champion 6. The headers are 3 cylinders into each separate exhaust. They stay separate all the way back (no crossover or X). Sounds wonderful!

Roger (153624) in Canada has a 55 Champion with duals. It sounds really nice.

My 50 2R5 has duals. The turbo I installed turned the exhaust system into a split system when it was teed under the heat riser. Now for those that are wondering how this was achieved with the C-Cab's fuel tank, it was run alongside the existing system to the back of the fuel tank and then crosses over in front of the axle. The exhaust had a 49? Commander muffler put in place with a short piece sticking from under the bumper. It has a nice tractor noise to it. Although it doesn't have true duals as they usually bank the cylinders at the exhaust manifold, from the turbo back one would never know the difference. [}]

This would make six so far in this post.

I don't know what kind of mufflers Mr. Phillips was using, but the car sounded real good.

For the split manifold on my '54, we ran 2 pipes for about 18", then formed into a single 2 1/2" pipe through a Magnaflow muffler and out the back via a dual exhaust tip. Runs and sounds real sweet-always reminds me of a Jag road race car I heard back in the 60's. I don't remember where I read it, but this setup was recommended as optimum for the Champion, and I'm happy with it.

Thanks! I'll look into doing this. I bet 2" would be plenty tho. What size magnaflow?

                            I don't recollect exactly what size-whatever worked with the 2 1/2" pipe.
