I had to take this beauty apart because the knob would not grab the sliding part and so that I could lubricate it. But naturally everything flew apart. Where does the ball bearing go? Any advice would be appreciated.Click image for larger version

It should be spring loaded, and is the detent for the sliding part . Otherwise, why would it be there?

If the knob is loose on the shaft, possibly the tiny set screw at the bottom needs gentle tightening. A small Allen wrench is the needed tool.

Best I can recall. the bearing goes underneath the slider holding the contacts to serve as a detent.

Okay, then bottom-to-top would be bearing, spring (retained by upside-down cup)? Do I have that right?
