  • Speedo / Tach / Gauges: Putting Hawk Stewart Warner Guages in a 56 President Classic

Has anyone in the group replaced all the gauges in a 56 President sedan with gauges from a 56 Hawk? I have not measured the gauges but eyeballing them it looks like they would fit. As far as wiring goes, what modifications would be necessary to have the upgrade? I like the full gauge set up, not the annoying "idiot" lights.

    Thanks in advance

The Hawk gauges fit just fine in the '56-'57 Sedan/Wagon Dash clusters.
The Major part of the job will be completely rewiring the charging and dash power supply circuits so that all dash power is routed THROUGH the Ammeter, then to the Ignition Switch from the Batt. Terminal of the Solenoid.

I just studied the Hawk wiring diagram and made it the same, but since I used a '63 Alternator in mine, I used the '63 Hawk diagram instead of the '56-'62.

The shifting linkage has a Lot of slop in it from wear and Miles, so it is not in Low or Second gear at 55 MPH !

The Fuel Gauge is for a '62-'64 GT Hawk, and the others are '56-'61 Hawk all S/W.

I do like those unique Stude gauges, but the SW look cool!
Working...
