  • Electrical: Black electrical junction box under dash 51Land Cruiser

The electrical connections in this box are worn and will not complete a circuit since wires fall out. Where can I get a replacement ? ; or can
I just use new single connectors and connect the wires directly from incoming to out going in line with the wires in the junction going in and out? Thanks

The wire that will not stay in place provides current to the right side rear signal light. Others control the circuit to the brake light on the right side also. I have not traced all the circuits as I can no longer crawl around under the dash because of a bad back. We found the problem when I was at the garage for an oil change and they always check the lights, etc. and the right signal light did not work. The mechanic located the problem at this junction by moving the wire in the connector and we had power. However, the wire would not stay in contact.

It sounds like you just need to have someone cut the wire terminals off and replace them, if it is the WIRE terminals you are talking about and not the "Box Receptacle" Terminals.
But, if the wires are that tattered, they may need replacement to prevent a short and or fire.

Not sure exactly how those "add-on type" 1951 turn signal systems look, but it sounds like the "Box" might just be the Turn signal Flasher, T/S Fuse and Stop/Dome Light Fuse panel.

It should be an easy fix, if you can't get under the dash, you need someone who can.

Thanks for your input. My access to the under dash is an impediment.

The connectors used for the turn signals were a multi-hole unit, where the turn signal harness connected to the respective lighting wires. I believe they were a 5 or 6 pin connector, and were made of Bakelite. The individual wires can be connected together as long as the wiring diagram in the shop, or owners manual is followed.

This is what Bruce is describing above. Is that what you're looking at? 5-pin connector at the base of the steering column.

Yes, an ordinary bullet type dual female multiple connector, not a Box.

That's it !. I have been able to find one so now all I have to do is get my mechanic to get under the dash and install it as well as check for broken wire. Many thanks to all respondents. I'll post when all is well especially if I run into some "surprises". Thanks again

Sorry for my delay, but I've been hampered with a bit of Vertigo. I received the proper part, went through the wiring and also found a 3 way connector that was only partially functioning so the mechanic eliminated that connector and replaced it with three insulated connections for the 3 wires involved and all is well. Parking lights, brake lights and signal light are alive and well. Thanks to all for your assistance and information.
