  • Electrical: Park light/ turn signal

Got a really nice, but not perfect!, park light on ebay. (Sometimes you get lucky. But it did not work. No contact from bulb to base of socket. On further inspection, it was evident someone had unsuccessfully attempted to repair it previously. So wondering if I needed to rebuild the whole thing (you can get rebuild kits on the interweb) or could I just replace the contact on the base? Epiphany. A 1/8" pop rivet is about the same size as the contact. Clipped off the bad contact, twisted the wires a bit and applied a little solder. I removed the stud from the rivet and the soldered wire fit nicely and snuggly into the rivet. I crimped it just a little in the hopes that that would keep it from falling out. The other side had bare wire showing which shorted it out thru the spring, so Liquid electrical tape was applied (wonderful stuff) Put it together and ,PTL , it works perfectly. Net cost of repair: one pop rivet and one drop of solder! Ultimate CASO repair!

Years ago at a swap meet I bought a bag on 1/8" copper POP rivets. I have been using them to replace light socket terminals since then. I lightly crimp them and then use a drop of solder for good contact. A smear of DOW 111 grease helps there too.

Wow, that was a find! Same stuff as 'bulb grease' that I got from 'Super Bright LED' I imagine . Helps a lot putting bulbs in and hopefully will help if ever they need replacement.

The DOW 111 I have was the dregs from a barrel liner that my buddy gave me . He packaged those little packets of grease for just about everybody.

I also have successfully used small copper pop rivets for contacts. Note that some copper-looking pop rivets actually are copper-coated aluminum. It's best to use all-copper ones, although they are more expensive.
