    What is this little box with one small wall going to it?. 289 engine

    It's a cutout switch. Usually used on Overdrive transmissions to cut the engine power instantaneously to allow the OD gears to separate when you kick it down to pass. The fuse type is unusual as the relay had the fuse on it, on older cars ( 1957, etc)

      What you have is the overdrive kickdown switch. The switch with the fuse on top is used on vehicles that don't use a relay. I had a 62 GT Hawk and a 64 Champ pick up that both used that style switch.

        Agreed ! That is the OD kick out switch. EXACTLY what my '62 GT had before my trans ate itself and I replaced it with an AOD and the throttle/kick down assembly with a simple cable throttle assembly I made.
