  • Electrical: FOG LAMPS quit working.

Fog lights were just fine and working. They both went out in unison. The taillights come on when I flip the fogs on. Wiring is all new. If it is a bad fuse,( which I guess i have the remove the flasher unit to find), I thought the taillights would not come on? Could it be a bad toggle switch ? I check with my tester and I have no juice to either fog lamps.

Sounds like a bad switch. If it was a blown fuse, the tail lamps would not come on. The original wiring would have been wired for the tail lamps to come on whenever the fog lights were on. Nowadays, modern driving/fog lights are wired differently.

The Fog Lights are "Supposed to be" wired to the Headlight Switch, headlight "H" Terminal, so they only work with the Headlights, NOT Parking or lights Off.

That is true -- today. But back in the day (before the USDOT was created), many state laws mandated that fog lights should be wired so that the tail lamps (and dash lights) came on when the fog lights were turned on. They were wired separately from the head light circuit. That is the way that the accessory fog light kit on my 3R6 came from the factory. I know all this because I fought a battle with DC vehicle inspection people over that very issue. Ultimately, I lost that war, but I was able to prove to them that the rules for auxiliary lighting had been changed by the feds, and that my truck actually complied with the rules that were in effect when it was built.

ID:	2073801 Headlight and Fog light wiring diagram. To note one wiring diagram requires a 30 amp fuse and the other requires a 14 amp? Click image for larger version

Would the taillights come on when I flip the fog toggle? When I connected my fogs into the headlight switch I pluged them in so they operated on their own without the headlights needing to be on. It was the only thing I made different from the factory diagram. I was able to turn fogs on seperately. The fogs had been working fine for several months. The other evening, they were on then both went out., but my taillights were still on.

Tail lights and dash lights are always wired together, they are that way on cars to day. Your fog lights are supplied from a single terminal in the switch. The supply is via a fuse, in my manual there are two diagrams one calls for a 14 amp fuse while the other calls for a 30 amp fuse. I would firstly check that fuse. For both lights to go out at the same time sounds like a fuse. The fact that the supply to both lights is from a single terminal I would also check that terminal externally and internally. Check the terminal for power, try a live jumper at the terminal and see if the lights come on.
