  • Speedo / Tach / Gauges: Speedometer Cable

So, being a new GT Hawk owner, I've been in the process of rebuilding things. One of the problems I have is the gauges. The clock is way fast, the speedometer is 20% off and goes up and locks at 120 or screams and the tach sticks. I decided to just replace them with Speedhut gauges. They are going to match the displays. Just the arms will be different. I'm getting the GPS speedometer. The question I have is what to do with the speedometer cable? Just leave it tied up behind the dash? Thanks for your suggestions.

You might want to disconnect it from the trans and cover the hole. If you're going with electronic gauges, there would be no value in having that thing spinning around every time you drive the car. You can leave the cable in place in case some later owner wants to convert it back.

If you remove the cable from the transmission it will pour fluid out while driving. You need to plug the hole. I'd just make an aluminum o-ringed plug to replace the cable, but most don't have the means to do that. Without a plug for the hole in the trans I'd just tie the cable up behind the dash and not worry about it. If the cable itself is noisy just pull the inner cable out of it an remove it. It should just slide out.

I was going to tie it up behind the dash. Would this work? https://www.whitbymotorcars.com/prod...er-plug/?gQT=1

It appears that it would work, but to be sure you would Mic the outside of the Cable Plug and ask for the O.D. of their Plug.

I called Whitby. They said it should fit, so I ordered it. Hopefully it does.
