  • Fuel System: Carter 4 barrel "seeping" gas in the back

Hello All----Hope you are well. This is BassMan again. My 289 rebuilt engine is presently on the engine test stand (my home made wood stand). After about 15 minutes running I notice that there is some "seepage" of gas at the rear of the carb. I do not see any gasoline coming down from the top of the carb. I guess it could be coming thru a gasket, but I notice there are two rivet looking things coming out of the back & pointing downward. One even looks like there is liquid gas behind the head. Anybody know anything about these pieces? Do they go into a chamber full of gasoline? Are they press fit pieces ? What are they for ? I wonder if they can be removed and sealed, if that indeed is the leak ? Click image for larger version

Those are tapered aluminum plugs intended to seal off a drilled passage. A gentle tapping might drive them in further and seal the leak. JT

A little red thread locker or POR gas tank sealer might help too.

I can see that the standard, soft Carb. Plugs have never been fully inserted & flattened with a Drift Punch and Hammer, or just a hammer to seal them, so they were not properly installed in your Carter WCFB while it was removed.
