  • Interior: Lets talk Seatbelts

So I've purchased my Studebaker seatbelts and am ready to install, but one of the general complaints I hear is of seatbelts slipping between the bench seat and back cushion. A friend of mine told me that he uses cut up "swimming pool noodles" to keep the belts in place. I'm thinking that there maybe a plastic sleeve that can be used? Does anyone have any ideas of what may have been used in the past or am I missing something in one of the parts catalogs? Thanks

This is an issue I will need to solve as well... Right now I am thinking I will 3D print a sleeve out of ABS plastic.

I have never had a problem with just sliding them through the gap between the Seat bottom and back and leaving them laying on the seat.

Sure it WOULD have been nice to have some Belt Retractors that used to be sold, to make sure the outboard half doesn't fall out the door, but they are perfectly usable as is.

Yo! Back in the day when I purchased my Avanti in 1966 it had seat belt re-tractors, in addition it had a flat piece of metal that was supposed to keep the belts from retracting too far into the seat..............well sad to say these pieces of metal in time tore holes in the seat back cushion (not the seat portion). Since 1966 this has been a sore spot with me, but I live with it because I am loathe to tear into the seats for a re-cover, that and the rip can not be seen unless the seat back is pushed forward and one looks at the bottom portion.

My thing has been the outer belts seem to want to escape into the door opening. I'd like to see a retainer that would end up even with the top of the seat cushion so you don't have to search for the belt or have to buckle up before closing the door. Maybe I'm getting too old & cranky.

I use seat belt rollers (retractors) like these from Speedway. Do a Google search on "vintage seat belt rollers retractors" and a bunch come up:
