  • Wheels / Tires: Cheap junkyard tire/wheel for project lark?

What common car should I look for in a junkyard to get 4 wheels and tire takeoffs that will bolt to a disc brake 66 and clear the fenders. I’ll be changing these off later for new but want to get ot

You need a 5x4.5" bolt pattern. Crown Vic wheels are very popular for this, as are '70s Mopars such as the Cordoba.

I use a cardboard template to make sure the wheel is either a Ford or Chrysler wheel. Take a piece of thin cardboard (cereal box, etc.), place the cardboard behind a Studebaker wheel, and use a wooden pencil to draw the bolt pattern on the cardboard.

        The Tires can be:
        P205/75R15
        P205/70R15
        P215/70R15
P215/75R15 this one is pushing the height limit a bit.

No higher than P215 to clear things, of course the preferred for best fit depending on the Wheel Backset would be the P205/75R15 or P205/70R15.
I would keep the wheels that are better for Radials, and just get New Tires for them after you get it home.

There are trailer wheels that are 5 X 4.5 - they are not as expensive as other wheels/tires. 62 Lark with trailer wheels/tires:

The question on Trailer Wheels may be: "will the offset be able to handle his Stude./Bendix Disc Brakes".
AND: "will they handle 2000 Lbs. each, like a Car Wheel"?

I have heard too many stories about poorly-made trailer tires (from China) flying apart on the road or even exploding while sitting on a driveway! Yes, anecdotal, but where there's smoke...

I was able to pick up a set of Ranger wheels for free on Craigslist. He was putting a set of aftermarket wheels.

All the Crown Vic wheels I encountered were 6" or 6.5" , which will work fine on a Hawk. I used the 6.5" with 215-70-15 tires on mine and they fit perfect. But the lark doesn't have as much room in the rear, so I would look for 5" Chrysler wheels, which should be relatively easy to find, and go with a 205-75-15 tire.
