  • Interior: Replacement options for paper firewall liner

I replaced my firewall liner years ago but since my eternal project Lark sits outside year round, leaks and sun exposure has done a number on the liner, it has has curled and faded over time. Also when I pulled the liner out last month, I found where an enterprising mouse had set up shop near the blower motor.

Any suggestions on a better firewall liner than paper and fiberglass bat?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I have become a huge fan of corrugated plastic signboard for all sorts of interior jobs. I made the firewall liner for a 63 out of it and have also used it for all the door panels on my 53. It is easy to cut, hard to tear, and waterproof. And cheap.

I just replaced my firewall pad with dynamat type stuff from Eastwood. It's peal and stick, (and sticks REAL good) but is a bit messy, actual Dynamat brand, though much more expensive, I hope would probably be easier to use. I then glued carpet to it with contact cement.

I first made this pattern from 30 pack Miller cartons. Thanks to Roland / Topper for a paper pattern I got from him after he did his firewall. I modified the drivers side a lot since the drivers side of my cars firewall interior is very modified. I used the pattern to mark and cut both the Dynamat and the carpet.

The Pontiac Brake Pedal does not look all that different than a '61 to '66 Lark or Lark Type.

Actually the pedal and pad itself is from a mid 70's Cadillac Rich, but the arm and pivot is from a Lark; the pedal was missing when I got it. The throttle pedal is stock but the lever it pushes is a lever and fulcrum that pulls a cable. I made it from bar stock. It's all in my '62 GT. I'm sure you've seen pics of my master cylinder and dual vacuum booster mounted to the firewall.

I have used 1/8" tempered Masonite. But the plastic signboard sounds like a great idea.

Some people have used a product called lizardskin. I haven't tried it, so can't give any input. lizardskin.com
