Transmission / Overdrive: T86 Front flange / Bearing retainer crack

This doesn't look good. I have the transmission out for an engine swap, and today I noticed I have a crack in the front bearing retainer. It appears to go about 2/3 of the way around. Seems like this isn't good and probably ought to be replaced. Thoughts?

May as well replace it, seeing as it is a common part. It might just be a scratch, but why take a chance?

It would be really GOOD to know if this Engine Block/Crankshaft to Clutch Housing has been Factory Matched (Dialed-in) or at least Done or Checked later if not known.

Thanks Gord. It's definitely a crack so I'll look for a replacement.

Rich, this is the original transmission and bellhousing mated to the original 232 in my '52. I'm wondering what would have caused this?

Just be sure to Dial-in the next Engine Trans. combo, an off center Clutch Housing is one thing that can cause that, a badly worn Input Shaft Bearing or a flaw in the Casting.
