  • Electrical: 12 volt wiper motor for my 1955 sedan?

My six volt wiper motor went bad after 3 years running on 12 volts. Any bolt in 12 volt motors that will work? My car is 1955 Commander 4door sedan. Any help is welcome.

bob1944, when we got our 55 from Robert Peterson, he included a 12 volt wiper assembly from a later car that fit right on ! Perhaps he or one of the other "techy" guys will chime in.

Wow! Running a 6 volt motor on 12 volts applies four times power to the poor little 6 volt motor. Get a 12 volt wiper motor.

Having disassembled four Stude C bodies from 53-61 I believe that any of the later motors would fit, I could see no difference in mounting of the six volt vs 12 volt motor. My 53 coupe has a 12 V wiper motor from either a 58 or 59 Hawk and works fine (after cleaning and tweaking)

I once removed a 12v wiper motor from a 59 Lark, and installed in a 52 Commander without modification.

I might be a bit of a tightwad, but the one listed on fleabay seems like it is a lot overpriced. I think with a little searching you can find a good one for much less. It does look like a nice clean unit though.
Tom Senecal Not enough money or years to build all of the Studebakers that I think I can.

"RQA" is a well respected Stude seller on eBay. Further he states that the wiper being offered is NOS thus a pretty good bargain...
