  • Electrical: replacement of the six volt park/turn signal bulbs with 12 volt bulbs--

I thought that I'd just insert the 12 volt bulbs in the original housing (53 Coupe) but the pin location on the six volt bulbs are not staggered like the twelve volts bulbs. Is there a 12 volt bulb that will work? Edit.....coupe is rewired with 12 volt system.

...or you can just grind off the offending (higher?) pin.

12V bulbs work in a 6V car, but they are much darker than 6V bulbs.

Here you can find an overview what different types of bulbs are available:

There is a 12 volt bulb that has the pins straight across. Problem is I don't have the number here. A search here on the forum should find it as it has been discussed in the past.I did a search and the number bulb you want is 1176 12 volt non staggered pins. You will have to make sure you install them with the brighter filament used for turn and stop circuit. Just a matter of turning it 180 degrees to get it right.

I asked this exact question on this wonderful forum a few months ago. Got the same answer as provided by 41Frank, bulb number 1176. Also provided in that thread was this automotive light bulb reference data. It points to this same answer. A great reference to keep handy.
