  • 62 champ point gap and timing

    sorry i haven't purchased a book yet. I was wanting to know what the point gap should be and what the timing should be set at in this 62 champ six cylinder.

    My Chiltons manual from 1966 says .020 gap and 2B for timing.

      Not sure about points, the rule of thumb is "an old match book cover." I knew a fella oncet who used to set spark plugs with a worn dime. Worked fine until one time he didn't have a dime, so he used two nickels.

        Basic tune up 101....

        Always set the point gap first (setting the dwell).
        Then set the timing.

        For every degree you change the dwell, you change the timing two degree's.

        Your order of tune up should be...
        Dwell
        Timing
        Idle mixture screw for highest vacuum reading (or RPM)
        Set the RPM
        HTIH (Hope The Info Helps)

          i just reaplaced my points and i set the to .019 with a little bit of tweeking after
