Can anyone tell me if 54-55 Conestoga's came from the factory with Tail Pipe extentions I have 2 1955 Conestoga's and neither have extentions, since they exit from the side, which one would look better. Both my Cars are V-8's. My car is all original with 74xxx miles, i have never seen a better original,, seen some restored cars in Pic's.

From memory, I believe that the only 1955 Studebaker that came standard with exhaust extension(s) is the Speedster model.

Absolutely NOT, since the only cars that "came with" exhaust extentions were the '55 Speedster, '56 Sedans and the Avanti.
In other words, on most models they were not standard.
If they were special ordered they would [u]most likely</u> be Dealer Installed, not factory. Of course we know to never say never, when it comes to what Studebaker would do to make a customer happy!
They were Accessories, so few came with them.
However the AC-2701, the vertical oval one with the divider in the center, most often seen on '55 Speedsters is correct for '47-'55 and available new in reproduction.
My own opinion is: on a Wagon, since the tailpipe exits diagonally under the bumper wraparound corner, I would angle cut the pipe, paint it Aluminum Silver and call it good! Or maybe add an aftermarket chrome turn-down extention.

According to some notables on the following thread, 4-slot exhaust deflectors were also standard on '58-'64 Hawks. I would assume this to be correct, as previous conversation of judging standards noted no deduction for using the "reproduction" deflectors.
The '55 extensions are a nice design, though, and I wouldn't hesitate to install them on a Conestoga if I had them on hand.

I bow to your parts expertise, but I think the AC2701 is different from the earlier ones in that the 2701 is for a 2" pipe while the others are for 1 3/4". I show AC1851 for '47 through '53 and AC2607 for '54 [?].
I used to run a 2701 on my '53 and I had to shim it with a piece of 2" OD pipe (slipped over the stock tail pipe)to make it work. I later found an 1851 which fits the original pipe just fine.
I have no idea why the number is different for '54 unless it is a totally different tip.
BTW- I got a pair of NOS 2701s from a dealer who didn't want to sell his mechanical stock, but had a pile of accessories in a seperate building. He said I could have any of them for $1.50 a box (included the tips, plus a dozen Hill Holders, probably a dozen sets of '53-'55 backups, about half C-K, etc.). Needless to say...

Paul; I thought the AC-2701 had a screw that could make it work on the 1 1/2" or whatever those tiny Champions had, the std. V-8 1 3/4" or the Special one-off Speedster 2" one. I know it is a poor fit and and a poor method but I think I have seen it done! [:0]

I was only answering relative to 1955 models, the subject of this thread, when I said only the Speedster had exhaust extensions standard.
There are other than the '56 sedans and Avanti that you cite that came standard with exhaust extensions. I looked up a couple of examples in the '57 and '58 Salesman's Data Books. '57 Silver Hawk V8, '57 Golden Hawk, '58 Silver Hawk V8, '58 Golden Hawk and '58 Packard Hawk all came standard with exhaust extensions. I am not saying that these are the only ones, just a couple of years that I verified my memory on.

Yes Gary I guess that is correct, my bad! I was wavering on that one, was not SURE! I have seen a lot of '57-'58 Hawks with, and a few Silver Hawks without! And of course I am not talking about in the last 30 years since those are almost always wrong, except Golden Hawks of course!
Anyway I was trying to focus on the issue of those Speedster type, but you know the more I think about it, I just don't see them working on a Wagon, because they are so tall to fit diagonally under the bumper corner!
As I said, I would not use stock extentions on a Wagon, our family '57 Wagons have and will have aftermarket chrome turn downs tucked under the corners of the bumper shooting the exhaust away from the tailgate, and down as they were designed to do.

OK, Lets Hit It: Taking delivery on a new '55 President State four door I had the dealer install the dual exhaust system. This required replacing the valance to accomodate both pipes. I asked that the tips be dressed up. They installed a pair of AC 2701. Pot metal, chromed. When they got shabby looking I replaced them with the 4 slot Speedster type. They were stainless steel except for the baffel and the mounting strap. The four slot speedster type were standard on the '57 Packard Clipper, which relaced the '55 Prez.

The AC-2701 ARE the Speedster Type with a Blade in the center! The ones you replaced them with are 1957 to 1964 Hawk type AC-2840 also used on '57-58 Stude. & Packard Sedans. Also you had a sedan, not a Wagon.
