differences 259 & 289

I'v read the difference between the two engines is in the stroke,so that would make the crankshafts diff.It would also seem the camshaft would differ.Rod & main bearings are the same what about bore & piston rods,heads etc.I'm talking factory specs for stock engines ?

As far as I know the only difference between a 259 and 289 is the crankshaft and the pistons. Because the rods are the same length the piston pin is located higher on the 289. Also on non R series engines the 289 used a dished piston to keep the compression ratio the same as the 259 with flat top pistons.

Like 56 Hawk says...the crank and pistons are the only differences dealing with the cubic inches.

Your question only asks about 259's and 289's as a displacement question.

As I'm sure you know...over the years, there were many cams, head castings, pistons, distributors, carburetors, intake manifolds, at least two exhaust manifolds, a few oil pans, water manifolds, valley covers, rocker covers.......need I go on?
These were all "OEM" changes.
